About The Three Worlds
The exhibit of photographs and paintings explores the natural and unnatural environment, alluding to the surface of the land, below the surface, and the skies.
Photographer Beaver's statement
Photography allows the light of the world to make marks on pieces of paper. For me, there is a bitter poignancy between the living substance of the world and the dead flatness of a photographic object. And so I often want the photograph to be self-aware of the process by which it was made, and I am drawn to processes that somehow leave their direct marks on the print.
Interfaces fascinate me – the ‘slash’ in Art/Science; Nature/Machine; Old/New; Painting/Photography. The tree is above ground and below ground, but the ground itself, the interface, is also part of the tree. What we have destroyed, and what we will create, are part of what we are. These Three Worlds are our only world, and I am reluctant to alter it by the photographic act. I mostly want to preserve what we are losing.

Artist Ludwig's statement/bio
Indulging In A Passion For Mark-Making: With adrenaline-charged mark-making the artist attempts to portray the heaving mass of life forms around her, painting and drawing fields of energy and minefields of emotion and thought which are clearly visible to her. She sees a landscape that writhes, twists, and sometimes rises, envelopes and embraces. This vision is applied to figures and activities that capture her wits, are absorbed, digested & spewed back out upon the working surface. The artist finds bird and land forms apt vehicles for translating her personal delvings into existentialism. A wide variety of mostly water-soluble media are used to converse with the surfaces, usually crashing beyond any boundaries of tidiness.
The artist has a fine arts degree with an emphasis on drawing along with a minor in art history from Kutztown University. Her works have have been displayed in a variety of venues.
Spending seventeen years in chocolate factories has given her talents ranging from running a molding line to producing the liquid chocolate to creating fine European truffles by hand. She has circumnavigated the perimeter of the state of Pennsylvania on a solo bike-packing trip, solo-backpacked across the mountains (small ones) of this most favorite state for 2 weeks at a time, assisted in the cave survey of Wind Cave National Park, and performed renovations of planetarium domes.

The Lion Princess — Journey to an Awakening is a fun exploration into a girl’s learning about herself and her world. By her courage, faith, and determination Alice is able to overcome obstacles in her quest to see the land she will one day rule as queen. She learns far more than she expected — about herself, the people who love her most, the trials of life, and the God Who created her.
The novel is unique in that it is not an animal story, per se, but an adventure where a girl dons a very realistic lion suit, joins a circus, and finds out what a struggle it is to be an animal. After Alice experiences firsthand the trials of wild animals she returns home determined to do something to relieve the suffering of all animals.
To help an animal welfare group: An incentive: “Set up a bank auto-withdrawal for six months for at least $10 a month and you will receive a free copy.” If you have a group you want to help, I can brainstorm ideas for you.

Red fox running down the road
Saw Gasland. On the road to Liberty a red fox came running across an empty lot and up the side of the road intent on some errand ~ I took it as the appropriate good sign.Two yellow pencils and a Segal-like figure reading a book (student work). Was relieved to see it was a film mostly about Josh Fox the character and nicely NYC-style artsy. Relieved to see him drawing no conclusions, found it profound at points, particularly in stating, "I don't know." The congressional hearing was the best scene -- have always luv luv Degette for introducing the bill; and next, good to see what a wrought up weasel Hanger is, now that we're following his trail of tears in PA. Good, albeit weird, to hear the snip of Nellie McKay.
The invited speaker, Irvin Mesmer of Bainbridge, OH, stressed the state's intent to lease the parks to drillers.
I grew up in Damascus township and because I spent the 5 last intense years (re: 14-19) a half mile away from where at the same time Josh's parents were constructing their city get-away, and because I also scrambled for miles up and down that same Milanville stream countless times, rock-hopping, wading, painting, studying crayfish, hellgrammites, eels, oswego tea, (past their cabin) it was very weird to see the acres of Calkins Creek/Skinner's Falls/Davis Road scenes in this context - especially the ones from that same time period. Just brought back so many memories of attitudes, and of all the places my head has been, and always since a kid being outside more than in. And what does that mean to value the natural world more than anything, to feel it is ones' real home. All that.

Beautiful sculpture which is Also a Working sundial to be unveiled in Ohio
The unveiling and dedication of the Richard Pirko memorial sundial will be Thursday August 26, at 1:30pm, outside the Ward-Beecher Planetarium, Youngstown University, Youngstown Ohio 44555 (weather permitting -- in case of bad weather we will hold it indoors in the Planetarium).
It should be a short ceremony. Tony Armeni (the sculptor) will be there. The Dean is invited, but his schedule is in flux, and may not be able to make it. The President and the Provost are also invited. Those saying a few words will include Victoria (Rick's wife), Angela Pupino, Pat Durrell and Warren Young at this point. Ron Cole (YSU media person) will be there, and with Warren's help will be writing up a press release for the event.
